Do I need a passport to travel to New Zealand? Please read details?

I live in Australia, and I am planning to go to New Zealand for a holiday. Do I require an Australian passport to go there?

I moved to New Zealand a year ago, so i went through all of this myself! 
Yes you’ll need a passport. You don’t need a Visa to live/holiday/work/study here though. You can also drive on an Australian licence etc.
You can apply for your passport at most Australia Post Stores. Just get a form, fill it out, get the relevant paperwork (ie. Birth Certificate) and a passport sized photo, and then send it all in with your payment!

Yes - New Zealand and Australia (even though they are close by to one another ) they ARE two separate country, their own government and laws.
You need to apply for an Australian passport.

You can also pick up passport applications at any Post Office.
Have myself lived in NZ and Australia, and tavel between the two country’s each year.

Yes, you definitely need a passport to get into New Zealand and you need one to get back into Australia (even if you’re an Australian citizen).

The airlines won’t let you get on the plane in Australia if you don’t have a passport!

Absolutely! no question about it.
If you are leaving Australia you are entering another jurisdiction and a passport is required to prove your identity.
what on earth made you think you did not need one?
